Masisa SA has commissioned an EVOsteam steam preheating system from Dieffenbacher at its particleboard plant in Cabrero, Chile.

The latest project follows other installations of EVOsteam at the likes of Pfleiderer and Sumitomo Group subsidiary Vina Eco Board. In Baruth, Germany, Pfleiderer operates the steam preheater in an MDF plant, while Vina Eco Board uses the machine in particleboard production at its site in Long An, Vietnam.

Masisa technical director Roberto Stück described the investment in Chile as a low investment solution for big improvements, boosting the capacity of particleboard production at Cabrero.

Installed directly at the press infeed, the EVOsteam preheats the mat by injecting steam. This reduces the time needed to heat the mat inside the press, accelerating production and increasing capacity, Dieffenbacher says, by up to 20%.

Dieffenbacher says the sharp rises in gas prices in recent times had increased resin prices, thus EVOsteam had the important additional benefit of more efficient use of resin, saving valuable raw materials.
