‘Using wood wisely means not choosing to burn wood as the first option ahead of better uses’ is the basis of Norbord’s Manifesto for the Hierarchy of Wood use inn UK energy law.

In promoting the manifesto further Norbord makes the point that the US are fighting for a rethink on the damaging reality of biomass fuel and asks why isn't the UK doing the same.

With the backing of over 14 different environmental groups, the White House has put forward its objections to the House of Representatives regarding increasing the amount of biomass use to generate power - precisely because biomass produces up to 50% more carbon emissions than coal.

And it's not just the US raising concerns, says Norbord. MPs in Australia have also decided not to include biomass energy in the country's tally of renewable energy.

Yet the UK's government continues to offer lucrative subsidies to energy companies who convert to biomass fuel instead of burning coal. All in the face of rising CO2 emissions and a skyrocketing energy bill for the nation, maintains Norbord.
