Two awards, each worth £500 is available to support career development within the wood based panel sector.

The scholarships, to celebrate the life of Harry Earl, are an innovation by the BioComposites Centre, Kronospan and CRC Ltd. The annual award was launched in 2015 and applications are currently being invited from early career academics and industrialists in the wood panel product sector.

Harry Earl had a successful career in the wood panel products sector, culminating with the position of technical manager at Kronospan in Chirk.

Deadline for submission is July 1 and preference will be given to candidates who use the award to attend training events organised by any of the sponsors. One such event is the International Panel Products Symposium (IPPS) Masterclass organised by The BioComposites Centre.

This year the IPPS Masterclass (September 13 and 14 2016) will be held at Bangor University and the theme will be 'Understanding Your Raw Materials'. The Masterclass will include sessions on basic wood anatomy, degradation in timber and an introduction to resin chemistry and screening tests.
