Norbords’s ‘Use Wood Wisely’ campaign – which is against the legislation that promotes the burning of virgin wood and instead suggests that timber in the UK should go through an appropriate cycle of use before it is burnt in order to generate electricity – had its campaigners (dressed as owls) encourage attendees of the Biomass Awards recently held at London’s Gibson Hall to ‘Get Wood Wise’.
The event was organised to highlight the campaign to enshrine the hierarchy of wood in law.
Currently 1.8 million tonnes of British grown wood is being burnt by power generators every year instead of being used for building materials and furniture making, which ensures the CO2 stays locked in for decades.
Campaigners believe wood should only be incinerated at the end of its useful life.
