The UK Wood Panel Industries Federation (WPIF) has launched a report on the economic contributions of the wood panel manufacturing sector.
WPIF launched the report by CBI Economics at the Scottish Parliament building Holyrood.
“The Economic Contribution of the Wood Panel manufacturing sector” leads with the key statistic that “10% of the UK economy is made up of wood panel reliant industries”.
WPIF director general Alastair Kerr presented the report to the Cross-Party Parliamentary Group (CPG) for the wood panel industry in the Scottish Parliament chaired by Fergus Ewing MSP.
The CPG was attended by 9 MSP’s from across the parties, representatives from the three board manufacturers and guests from Confor, James Jones Ltd and Gresham House.
With leading presentations from David Leslie, joint managing director of sawmiller James Jones, and Olly Hughes, managing director, forestry at Gresham House, as well as Mr Kerr, the CPG meeting focused on the core messages of requiring a stable regulatory framework and the need to move with some urgency to remove the barriers that inhibit the planting and replanting of the productive tree species which are essential to support the growth of all domestic timber dependant sectors of the economy.
