One scenario affects established industries. As a result of the distorting subsidies available to energy producers to burn wood on an industrial scale, established wood-using industries are unfairly under threat. The subsidies have caused market distortion of the cost of wood and created unfair competition for this vital resource.

These industries include many which manufacture and supply materials for the building and furnishing of the home. The subsidies have pushed up costs and resulted in a double payment for most homeowners – once in energy bills to cover the subsidies and again in the purchase of many wood based products.

Furthermore, thousands of people are employed in these industries meaning that the subsidies could put jobs and livelihoods at risk.
