Turboden, a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group Company, has received an order for two ORC systems (13.6 MWe each) from leading Turkish wood-based panels producer Kastamonu Entegre.

Kastamonu already has three ORC plants supplied by Turboden, in Gebze and in Balikesir, for a total of 5 biomass plants and 30 MWe installed.

Turboden’s high-efficiency ORC turbines were preferred for the new projects, which are planned to be installed in the factories in Balikesir and Kastamonu provinces, where electricity will be generated from wood and particleboard production wastes.

An ACC (air-cooled) model will be installed in Balikesir. It will be producing electricity while not requiring the use of water. The CO2 saving will be 3,000 ton/year.

A cogeneration ORC system, that produces both electricity and hot water, will be delivered for the Kastamonu project.

In this case, the CO2 saving for electrical will be 3,000 ton/year and for thermal will be 6.200 ton/year.

These projects, which are planned to be commissioned in the last quarter of 2022, will provide electricity to the national grid over the old YEKDEM tariff price of 133 USD/MWh. In addition, the ACC, which is one of the main components of the ORC unit, and many other parts will be produced at Turboden’s Izmir Aliaga factory.

Turboden has increased the number of ORC plants it has established in Turkey to 18, with an installed power base to 115 MWe.
