Swedspan is considering building a particleboard plant at an existing site in Malacky, Slovakia, according to a report by Fordaq.

Spokesman for Swedspan Dirk Böckenhoff said the company had not applied for a building permit yet, but had arranged for an Environmental Impact Assessment to be carried out, with a positive result.

Mr Böckenhoff indicated that Swedspan, a subsidiary of Swedish home furnishings retailer IKEA, is also considering capacity expansions in other locations.

Construction of a €140m ultra thin MDF plant in Poland’s Orla region is going ahead as planned with the first 1, 2, and 3mm boards due to be produced in May 2011.

Swedspan plans to further expand that site with the installation of a sawmill and panel finishing line, Fordaq noted.
