Due to market overcapacity for raw particleboard and raw MDF, the management of Pfleiderer Holzwerkstoffe GmbH, a subsidiary of Pfleiderer AG, has commenced discussions with the respective employee councils concerning the closure of the particleboard plant in Ebersdorf and the MDF plant in Nidda. Approximately 300 employees will be affected by these closures.
“As a result of the fall in demand in recent years, Western Europe will have structural overcapacity in the medium term of between ten and 15% of the currently installed production capacities. In the present situation, therefore, competitive production and capacity utilisation are no longer guaranteed, said Michael Wolff, managing director of Pfleiderer’s Business Center Western Europe.
