Murphy Co, the new owner of the Rogue River, Oregon, plywood mill, reopened it on December 13, creating 105 jobs for workers laid off from various area mills, reports the Rogue River Press.

Murphy Co acquired the shuttered plywood plant from Panel Products in December 2009 for US$3.6m. Since then, the facility has been under renovation.

Murphy Co president John Murphy at the official re-opening said the company was excited about getting the facility back up and running.

One of the mill’s biggest challenges is expected to be sourcing raw material, as Oregon’s 2009 timber harvest was the lowest since the Great Depression and the 2010 harvest is also expected to be at record lows.
