Masisa is to invest US$55m in building a medium density particleboard (MDP) mill in Cabrero, Chile.

The mill will be partly financed with the operating cash flow and divestment of non-essential assets and a production capacity of 280,000m3 of MDP a year is envisaged. Output is aimed at the domestic and export markets.

Part of this project will involve the conversion of a Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF) line that is shut down at the Cabrero complex.

“The development of this new mill is a milestone at this time, and ratifies Masisa’s commitment to its customers to create innovative products for the furniture industry, said Masisa’s ceo Roberto Sales.

The company has just filed an environmental impact statement with the National Environment Agency. Once approved construction should take 18 months.
