Chilean panel products manufacturer Masisa has started up its new medium density particleboard (MDP) plant in Brazil.

Construction of the 750,000m3/year capacity facility – first announced in September 2007 – cost US$140m. The production volume includes 300,000m3/year of melamine-faced boards, and will be for consumption primarily by the domestic furniture industry.

Situated about 40 kilometres from Porto Alegre in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the plant will provide employment for about 200 people.
