In a second official auction of its assets, Lima-based Representaciones Martin bid €2.5m for Tablicia’s plant in Nadela near Lugo in Spain’s Galicia province.

The Peruvian buyer – which deals in a range of wood based products and accessories including MDF, particleboard and plywood panels ¬- is expected to take over the plant in October this year when it is due to pay for its Spanish acquisition. The Martin group is said to want to modernise the particleboard facility, parts of which date back to 1978. The plant, which has not operated since April this year, has two melamine board lamination lines.

The group intends to restart the 60,000m3/year particleboard unit and is set to employ a workforce there of more than 100, a spokesman for the Tablicia council said.
