South American plywood brand Lumin is now being shipped to Europe with PEFC certification.
The product, made from eucalyptus and pine by Weyerhaeuser in Uruguay, has achieved both PEFC forest and chain of custody certification.
“Weyerhaeuser has become the first forest owner in Uruguay to have achieved certification to a nationally agreed and internationally endorsed standard for their forest management practices, said PEFC Council secretary-general Ben Gunneberg, PEFC Council.
“This sets an important example for other forest owners and allows Weyerhaeuser to benefit from the credibility of PEFC certification, enabling the company to effectively communicate the sustainability credentials of Lumin plywood to customers.”
Weyerhaeuser recently doubled the production volume at the Uruguayan plant, with more than 50% destined for the European market.
