20 February 2020 The first board has been produced from the Siempelkamp short-cycle KT 700 press which the EGGER Group ordered to be installed at the Rambervillers, production site.

Wood Technology Co. orders MDF plant to use rice straw from Siempelkamp
19 February 2020 Egyptian company Wood Technology Co. (WOTECH) finalised the order with Siempelkamp for an MDF plant with an annual production capacity of 205,000m3 which will utilise rice straw as the raw material.

Development of super thick plywood in Japan
17 February 2020 Tokyo based Seihoku Plywood is developing a plywood with a thickness of more than 50mm and it is applying to obtain Japanese Organic Regulation (JAS) certificate. This would allow Seihoku to participate in the new engineered wood market.

Dieffenbacher invests in internet start-up APPbyYOU
17 February 2020 Dieffenbacher has purchased a financial stake in APPbyYOU, the company, founded in 2012, developed the MyMessenger ticket and messaging app, a key component of the MyDieffenbacher digital service platform.

Holmen reports operating profit of SEK 11.12bn and raises asset value to SEK 41.34bn
13 February 2020 Operating profit for 2019 was SEK 11.12bn 2018 (SEK 2.38bn in 2018), profit after tax was SEK 8.73bn (SEK 2,27bn). The value of forest assets rose to SEK 41.34bn and due to asset accounting changes the board decided that net financial debt should not exceed 25% of equity.

SAIB orders a 85-t dryer from Büttner
13 February 2020 Italian company SAIB has ordered a new type-R drum dryer from Büttner for its site at Caorso, Piacenza.

Dieffenbacher opens spare parts warehouse in Bangkok
13 February 2020 Dieffenbacher has opened a new spare parts warehouse near Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok. The warehouse will serve the five new Dieffenbacher plants commissioned in Thailand since 2017 and the new plant scheduled to start up this year.

Arauco to close MDF mill in Eugene, Oregon
12 February 2020 Arauco has announced it will be closing its medium density fiberboard (MDF) production facility in Eugene, Oregon May 1st 2020.

Soil Association Forestry issues Ecosystem Services declaration
12 February 2020 Soil Association has issued its first Ecosystem Services declarations to existing FSC Forest Management Certificate holders: Forestal Arauco S.A.in Chile and Arauco Argentina S.A. in Argentina.

Finland’s pulp and timber strikes come to an end
11 February 2020 The strikes began in January and affected the whole of Finland’s pulp and paper industry. A proposal was put to both sides of the dispute by the mediator which was accepted leading to an immediate end to the strikes.

Norbord reports a loss of $30m for 2019
06 February 2020 Norbord’s full year report states an EBITDA of $138m for 2019 compared to $724m in 2018 recording an adjusted loss of $30m compared to $412m in 2018.

Garnica expands its presence in France with construction of a new €80m plant in Grand Troyes
05 February 2020 Founder and president of the Spanish company, Pedro Garnica, laid the first stone at Grand Troyes business park in the Grand Est region of France to mark Garnica’s seventh factory. It will cover an area of 40,000m2.

Strikes at Finland’s sawmills and plywood factories highly probable as negotiations with Union continues
28 January 2020 The strikes threatening forestry could damage the industry to the tune of €1bn. The Finnish Forest Industries Federation (FFIF) believes that it is highly probable that the strike at sawmills and plywood factories called for by the Industrial Union will take place.
