The UK’s coniferous plywood duty-free quota has now been exhausted.

This year’s take-up of the quota has been one of the slowest on record, due mainly to poor market demand and changes in sourcing patterns.

The exhausting of the quota in week 28 compares to week 23 last year, week 18 in 2008 and week 20 in 2007.

Playing a part in the slow take-up may have been a downturn in supplies from Finland, due to manufacturers’ overall production cut-backs, possibly leading importers to switch to Chilean material which is duty-free.
