The 50-year-old company, based in Mexico’s northern state of Chihuahua, is making an initial investment of US$80m to expand and diversify production at its existing wood products complex in Hidalgo del Parral.

Construction of the new plant to house a 200,000m3/year continuous MDF line was scheduled to begin this year with line start up due to take place by June 2015. Dieffenbacher, which is set to supply a second MDF line to the Mexican teak producer Proteak Uno next year, claims Duraplay will actually run the country’s first continuous fibreboard line.

In December 2013, Duraplay was due to launch a new low pressure melamine laminating line at its site.

Its new plant will see the company’s direct workforce increased by 100 jobs and will lead to the creation of nearly 1,000 additional jobs indirectly, said Duraplay.

Another four European panel sector supplier companies will provide new equipment for the MDF project, according to the firm’s president Emilio Ayub.
