IMAL-PAL Group is breaking new ground by supplying technology for the world’s first manufacturer of insulation board using cork raw material.

The company has published an Italian newspaper article on its website describing the Bioedil facility in Sardinia, which is expected to be completed in September and will employ 80 workers.

The majority backers of the project are the Russian Instroret Co and the Renovo of Mantua. The plant will use Sardinian cork but also local waste wood to produce the insulation panels for the construction industry.

One of the great advantages of cork is its green credentials and sustainability appeal, as well as low thermal conductivity, water repellency and fire resistance.

Gas contained in the small inter-cellular spaces of cork, within its honeycomb structure, give cork a low thermal conductivity, and make it able to withstand a wide range of temperatures, making it ideal for housing and flooring insulation.
