ATC Panels’ Franklin, Virginia, particleboard plant is unlikely to resume particleboard production in the near future, reports Tidewater News.

Plant manager Tom Garrahan said the likelihood of the plant reopening in the near future was slim after 15 employees were laid off in mid-March, leaving just 20 staff at the facility, four of whom Garrahan have just been laid off.

At its peak, ATC’s Franklin mill employed more than 130 staff. Ninety workers were laid off in the autumn of 2007, and a further 34 jobs were cut in October 2008. Operations at two other ATC plants, in Ontario, Canada, and North Carolina, were stopped months ago.

ATC is owned by Aconcagua Holdings, a company formed by Chilean investors in May 2004.
