The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has approved revised national voluntary standards for particleboard and MDF in interior applications, reports Furniture Today.
The standards, sponsored by the Composite Panel Association (CPA), are harmonised with the requirements of the California Air Resources Board (CARB). CARB began phasing in rules to limit formaldehyde emissions from composite panels in January.
The US Environmental Protection Agency has begun the process of drafting rules that will form the basis of a national standard.
