Century Plyboards has inaugurated a new greenfield plywood manufacturing facility in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, as part of its efforts to expand manufacturing capacity and strengthen its presence in North India.
The company has invested Rs2.15bn ($22.6m) in the plant, which was officially opened by chairman Sajjan Bhajanka, with the attendance of managing director Sanjay Agarwal and executive directors Keshav Bhajanka and Nikita Agarwal Bansal.
The Hoshiarpur facility is set to commence operations with an annual production capacity of 60,000m3, reported The Hindu business line.
Plans are in place to scale output to 100,000m3 within six months through a second phase of development.
According to Century Plyboards, the facility is expected to contribute annual revenues of approximately Rs6bn once fully operational.
Occupying 27 acres, the new factory aims to address increasing demand for plywood across northern and north-western markets.
The site, located near major timber and plywood resources and skilled labour, is designed to improve product availability and supply-chain efficiency in regions including Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
Hoshiarpur is Century Plyboards’ seventh plywood manufacturing site in India, joining existing plants in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana and Uttarakhand.
Nikita Bansal said: “The commissioning of our Hoshiarpur facility is an important step in strengthening our manufacturing presence in North India and, more importantly, in advancing our pursuit of making uncompromising plywood.
“For us, this is not simply about adding capacity. It is about getting closer to our customers, strengthening our supply chain and being more agile in responding to changing market needs.”
The company said the plant will create over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs locally, supporting its objective to enhance manufacturing and supply capabilities as current facilities operate at high utilisation rates.
