LP Building Solutions, a Nashville-headquartered manufacturer of high-performance building products, plans to indefinitely curtail oriented strand board (OSB) production at its Jasper, Texas, facility from October 2026.
The company attributed the decision to persistently soft conditions in the OSB market, as it seeks to bring manufacturing output into closer alignment with current demand levels.
The Jasper plant has an annual capacity of around 475 million square feet, measured on a 3/8in basis.
LP arrived at the decision after conducting a broad assessment of production needs across its manufacturing network. The review, it said, took into account a range of considerations, among them operating costs, capital investment requirements, logistics and longer-term asset utilisation.
LP CEO Jason Ringblom said: “Current market conditions require us to align OSB production with demand. While the near-term environment for OSB remains challenging, we are confident in LP’s strategy and our ability to create long-term value.
“Taking action now allows us to operate efficiently through the cycle while maintaining the flexibility to respond as market conditions improve.”
Ringblom emphasised that the curtailment was unrelated to the performance of the Jasper workforce, acknowledging that the team’s contributions had strengthened the company over many years.
The manufacturer, which operates more than 20 plants across North and South America, said it would keep market conditions under review and adjust output across its network as needed. Restarting idled capacity remains a possibility should demand warrant it, the company said.
LP has pledged to assist affected employees through the transition by offering job search resources, career transition support and guidance on applying for open positions at its other facilities.
Separately, LP recently broadened its SmartSide Trim & Siding range by introducing a primed 8in brushed smooth shake lap siding product, designed to offer builders and homeowners additional options for traditional exterior aesthetics.
The new siding measures 8in wide by 4ft long, features a customisable 5in to 6in reveal, and has a reversible design allowing installation with either a straight or staggered edge.
