Diversified wood products company West Fraser, with facilities in western Canada and the southern US, reports earnings of C$79m, on sales of C$1,107m in Q4, 2016 and earnings of C$326m, on sales of C$4,450m for 2016.

In Q4, 2016 lumber operations generated operating earnings of C$107m and adjusted EBITDA of C$144m.

Production and shipments declined quarter over quarter due to cold weather in several of the company’s operating areas and fewer operating days. The segment's results benefited from a weaker Canadian dollar while Canadian log costs continued to rise.

Q4, 2016 panels segment, which includes plywood, LVL and MDF, generated operating earnings of C$17m and adjusted EBITDA of C$20m. The major contributor to the decline was plywood pricing as winter weather slowed Canadian construction.
