Timber producer Holzindustrie Schweighofer has invested €14m in its new factory in Radauti, eastern Romania and will hire 75 people there long-term.

In February this year, the new Schweighofer unit started producing laminated wood beams which are used to build Japanese traditional wooden houses.

The company has signed an exclusive contract with Meiken Lamwood Corporation a local sawmill and Japan's leading manufacturer of laminated lumber.

The plant in Radauti will produce about 100,000m3 of laminated beams annually and will export them to Japan.
