The European Sustainable Tropical Timber Coalition (STTC), an alliance of industry, business, government and NGOs dedicated to increasing European demand for sustainably sourced tropical timber, has launched a new interactive website and a programme for environmental procurement strategy funding.

It signals, it says, a fresh European energy to grow the sustainably sourced tropical timber market and support sustainable forest management in supplier countries.

The new site, www.europeansttc.com, highlights the technical and environmental credentials and diversity of sustainably sourced tropical timber. It is also designed to work closely with the new STTC funding programme.

This will support initiatives that facilitate sustainable procurement at EU timber companies, federations and local authorities and it is being managed at EU timber companies, federations and local authorities and it is being managed by the European Timber Trade Federation (ETTF), which also announces a collaborative new relationship between it and the STTC in support of the tropical sector.

The website also provides full details on STTC, its supporters and how to get involved. It describes sustainable forest management in the tropics and the tropical timber industry's environmental, social and economic value.
The core theme is that using sustainably sourced tropical timber benefits the forest, the millions who depend on it and international trade.

In addition the site explains the ETTF-managed funding programme. This has €1m to support [procurement strategies and other activities that contribute to STTC goals.
