A 280,000m3/year MDF plant being constructed in southern Mexico by the new panel manufacturer Proteak is taking shape rapidly with the main production hall already erected.

Mexico City-based Proteak reported it has now received all essential permits for the project with the issue of formal power cogeneration consent for the site by Mexico's Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE).

The firm has also concluded an agreement with the national oil and gas group Pemex on the connection of a natural gas supply line to supply the energy plant turbine at Huimanguillo in Tabasco state, it said.

Proteak took delivery of the first shipment of heavy plant machinery at the green field MDF plant in November from Germany. Its new continuous line is being provided by the German supplier Dieffenbacher. The plant is due to start up later this year.

In 2014, Proteak planted the greatest area of new forest since its foundation including 1,600ha of eucalyptus and 950ha of teak trees. Its forest plantations in Mexico now total 8,156ha.
