In its bid to lead the way in MDF manufacture in Mexico, Proteak group has joined forces with experienced European panel maker, Financiera Maderera SA (Finsa) of Spain.

Mexico City-based Proteak, due to launch its first 280,000m3/year MDF line in August 2015, has signed a cooperation deal with Finsa of Santiago de Compostella. This features the joint operation of Proteak's new plant, technology transfer and marketing of Finsa products in Mexico.

Eighty-year-old Finsa runs 12 plants in Europe including units in Portugal, France and Spain. The company employs 2,750 and has an annual turnover worth US$1bn.

"We are very proud of this alliance with a world class producer with so much experience," said Proteak chairman Héctor Bonilla. "The participation of Finsa once again validates the strength of our project and Proteak MDF as a solid company."

Proteak joined with Finsa to optimise the commissioning speed and production efficiency of its new Dieffenbacher MDF line at Huimanguillo in Tabasco state.

The alliance will "significantly shorten the learning curve facing any new project, ensuring cost efficiency, quality and volume of production", according to Omar Nacif heading the Proteak MDF project.
