Mexican wood panel manufacturer Duraplay de Parral has officially launched the main construction stage of its US$80m project to establish its first MDF production plant.

The plywood and particleboard producer based in northern Mexico, formally laid the foundation stone for an integrated 15,500m2 panel complex, including a 200,000m3/year continuous MDF line at recent ceremony at Duraplay's base in Hidalgo del Parral, Chihuahua state.

Buildings under construction on a 145,000m2 site beside the firm's existing panel plant include the hall for the Dieffenbacher supplied MDF line and a 50,000 tonne per year resin production plant.

At the ceremony, led by Duraplay's chief executive Emilio Ayub Touché and board members, were representatives of Dieffenbacher and other suppliers, local authority officials and the governor of Chihuahua state César Duarte Jaquez.

Finance for the project, which was sourced from the Chihuahua state government, working with a Mexico City private equity fund, as well as Mexican and German banks, was finally arranged by the end of 2014. Duraplay planned to start up the MDF plant later this year.
