Mexican fibreboard imports down 14.5% in 2017

Mexican fibreboard imports reached US$150.1m in 2017 and were down 14.5%, compared to US$175.6m 2016.

Brazil was again the main wood fibreboard supplying country to the important Mexican market with US$61.7m, an increase of 3.2% compared to US$59.8m the prior year. Brazil’s share of total Mexican fibreboard imports reached 41.1% in 2017 (2016: 34%).

Chile, with US$28.2m, down 37% compared to 2016 (US$44.8m), was the second fibreboard supplier to Mexico. The US was the third main supplying country with US$25.4m (2016: US$31.2m).

Next were China with US$11.5m (2016: US$12.5m), Germany with US$7.7m (2016: US$8.7m) and Canada with US$3.8m (2016: US$4.4m).

The main Brazilian fibreboard supplying company to the Mexican market in 2017 was Arauco Do Brasil with US$33.3m and Berneck with US$10.2m.

The main fibreboard Mexican importer in 2017 was Araucomex with US$47.9m, an increase of 2.6% compared with 2016 (US$ 47.6m).
