Brazilian resin plant to serve local wood panel sector

Ohio-based Hexion Specialty Chemicals, claimed to be the world's largest thermosetting resins maker, has opened a major resins manufacturing complex in Montenegro, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, to serve the growing engineered wood products market in southern Brazil.

Hexion Quimica Industria e Comercio Ltda, the Brazilian subsidiary of Hexion, operates the state-of-the-art plant strategically located on 42 acres of land, including a 3.7 acre preserve of native trees. Hexion has implemented a reforestation project as part of the venture and planted more than 2,000 native trees on the property and an additional 400 native trees in the region.

The plant is expected to serve customers in the region that use urea-formaldehyde resin in the production of engineered woods panels.

The plant has a rated annual capacity of 450,000 metric tons of UF resins. The plant also produces formaldehyde.

The facility is equipped with modern environmental and safety protection.
