Freight costs raise Chinese plywood prices

Replacement prices for Chinese plywood are continuing to rise in Europe due to increasing freight costs, according to a report by German news service Euwid.

Agents and importers involved in Asian business have faced substantial increases in freight rates since the middle of last year. Prices stabilised briefly in Q4, but rose sharply again at the beginning of 2010.

The latest drastic rise in transport costs is attributed to the reduction of freight capacity.
