A Mexican wood products manufacturer has launched a new 150,000m3/year particleboard and board lamination plant in the city of Durango.
Ponderplay SA de CV, part of the Ponderosa group run by the Rincón paper and packaging producing family, has invested US$25m in the new plant. It is located in the industrial zone of the Durango state capital once occupied by the family’s former small Maderas Moldeadas SA particleboard facility.
The project, which aims to produce high quality Brazilian-style ‘medium density particleboard’ (MDP), in demand in Mexico’s construction and furniture sectors, will eventually turn out melamine laminate finished panels as well as raw board.
Demand for more laminated particleboard and a growing substitution of the panels for MDF in the country have triggered this latest investment.
