Colombian panel manufacturer Tablemac SA is to spend a further US$15m on the country’s first MDF plant which will now include a board line with continuous press technology and a biomass fuelled thermal plant.
Late last year, the board of Medellin-based Tablemac, announced it planned to invest US$30m to construct a 132,000m3/year MDF plant.
Now, having studied supplier proposals for machinery and engineering, Tablemac says its shareholders have agreed to increase the project budget to US$45m.
The company, which is financing the scheme with a mix of Colombian and German bank loans and its own funds, announced in March (2010) that the new plant will be located in Barbosa, Antioquia.
Tablemac’s new line is scheduled to start up in June or July 2011 with commercial operation expected by September next year.
