PenPly set to start-up former KPly mill

After more than two years not operating, the boiler at Peninsula Plywood’s (PenPly) mill at Port Angeles, Washington, was fired up on December 30 in preparation of the facility resuming plywood production in January.

Former owner KPly closed the mill in November 2007.

The Peninsula Daily News reported in January that PenPly had hired 40 workers and plans to take on another 100.

PenPly president Josh Renshaw said he had already hired outstanding workers from the more than 400 people who had applied to work at the mill.

Mr Renshaw said the boiler was the heart of any production plant, that the boiler testing had gone well, and that the company had made good progress on remedial maintenance.
