Breakthrough in non-toxic rot-free MDF
Published:  10 June, 2009

Titan Wood (part of Accsys Technologies plc) and MDF manufacturer Medite Europe Ltd have signed a joint development agreement to create an economically viable, non-toxic and stable MDF panel made from Titan Wood’s Tricoya wood elements (‘Licensed Products’).

Titan Wood’s technology, based on wood acetylation, is said to increase the amount of ‘acetyl’ molecules in wood, changing its physical properties.

The environmentally responsible process protects wood from rot and improves stability and durability without making it toxic, thus enabling new products to be used in new and exciting applications, including those that are in high moisture areas, especially outdoors, says the company.

Under the agreement Medite is granted an exclusive license to develop, manufacture, market, distribute and sell Licensed Products within the UK and the Republic of Ireland. The terms of the agreement reflect the status of Medite and Titan Wood as partners in the commercial development of the technology following commercialisation of the Licensed Products.
