The long-delayed construction of an OSB mill near Winslow, Ariz, by Arizona Forest Restoration Products Inc (AZFRP) has won some heavyweight support from the state's environmental community.
AZFRP's inability so far to secure harvesting licenses from the US Forest Service to provide wood fibre for the facility from national forest lands has prevented progress on the mill.
However, on April 24, AZFRP signed a landmark agreement with representatives of the Grand Canyon Trust, based in Flagstaff, Ariz, and the Tucson, Ariz, based Center for Biological Diversity committing mutual support to a plan to safely restore beneficial fires and conserve biological diversity in northern Arizona ponderosa pine forests.
