Weyerhaeuser closes plant in Albany and production at Arcadia

Weyerhaeuser has closed its Albany Engineered Wood Products facility, affecting 70 workers.
The plant produced engineered wood headers, beams and scaffolding planks.

The closure is indefinite, but company sources indicate that it "is expected to be long term."

Workers will continue to receive their regular pay and benefits until October 30, following which they will be eligible for severance and other benefits associated with involuntary termination.

The company has also cut its production volume at its Arcadia, Louisiana, OSB plant.

According to local sources, Weyerhaeuser went from a three-shift operation to a single shift affecting 17 workers.

No indication came from the company that those workers would be offered jobs at other Weyerhaeuser sites.

Weak prices for OSB and a poor housing market are being blamed for the shift reductions.
