German wood machinery sales recover

A sharp increase in business at German wood processing machinery manufacturers has been welcomed by their trade body, the VDMA.

The organisation reports a Q2 rise in machinery orders of 85% over the same period last year. Domestic orders put on 13%, while overseas business jumped 109%.

“This is the third quarter we’ve seen an increase and now we’re seeing overseas companies ordering new technology too, which is very pleasing considering how extremely hard manufacturers have been hit by the economic crisis,” said the VDMA’s Dominik Wolfschuetz.

The organisation’s managing director Bernard Dirr said the improvement in export orders indicated that “financing of large projects abroad is becoming more possible again”.

In the second half of 2010, the VDMA is anticipating something of a slowdown, but only to a “more normal level of market momentum”.
