Brazilian plywood exports rise

Exports of tropical plywood from Brazil decreased 21% in June compared to a year ago, according to the International Tropical Timber Organisation’s latest market report.

The exports, which dropped to 8,700m3, fell 16% in value terms to US$4.9m.

However, pine plywood exports jumped 109% in value terms to US$37m, with volumes up 36% to 97,600m3.

Tropical sawnwood shipments decreased by 4.7% in volume to 38,500m3 and 3.8% in value to US$17.9m.

Pine sawn timber shipments were 12% below last year’s level in value, while volumes decreased 3.5% to 55,000m3.

Overall timber product exports (excluding pulp and paper, but including furniture) rose 19% to US$206m.
