The American Wood Council (AWC) has established itself as an independent trade association to represent wood product manufacturers.
Until now the AWC, the technical arm of the US wood products industry, has been part of the American Forest & Paper Association.
By becoming independent, AWC said it would provide the industry with a forum to work together on issues related to building codes and standards, green building and environmental regulations affecting wood products manufacturers.
It comprises both traditional timber and engineered wood product manufacturers.
“By working together as a coalition, the industry can have the resources, clout, and credibility to achieve policies that can secure a strong future for the wood products industry,” said AWC board chairman Marc Brinkmeyer.
