Uniboard to close Fostoria lamination plant

Uniboard says it plans to close its facility in Fostoria, Ohio on October1. The facility laminates particleboard used in kitchen cabinets, store shelving and cabinetry.

Uniboard president and ceo James Hogg said Fostoria’s manufacturing volume would progressively be transferred to one of Uniboard’s three other thermofused melamine lamination plants, reports the Fostoria Review Times.

Mr Hogg said the closure – which impacts on 30 jobs – would allow Uniboard to take advantage of cost synergies and improved efficiency, and would increase the group’s overall competitiveness.

Uniboard took over the Industrial Dimensions Incorporated plant in 2000. At its peak the plant employed 84 workers and ran four shifts, but reduced production in 2008 to two shifts per day for a total of 12 hours of production, seven days a week.
