Royal DSM NV, the global Life Sciences and Materials Sciences company headquartered in the Netherlands, has declared that Orascom Construction Industries’ (OCI) subsidiary OCI Nitrogen has acquired DSM Melamine and DSM Agro. OCI Nitrogen is now an integral part of the OCI Fertilizer Group.
DSM Melamine will continue business under its new name OCI Melamine.
OCI Nitrogen will market products from the portfolio of the OCI Fertilizer Group. This will give OCI Melamine the opportunity in the near future to also sell technical urea, thus further strengthening its ties with the wood based panel industry.
DSM Melamine (henceforth OCI Melamine) is the world’s largest producer of melamine. The main application of melamine is in wood based panels and laminates used for furniture and flooring.
The company has a plant in the Netherlands and also produces melamine in joint ventures in China (DSM 49%) and Indonesia (DSM 60%). In 2009 DSM Melamine realised net sales of €151m.
