IKEA drops particleboard in some furniture lines

IKEA has dropped particleboard in some of its furniture in favour of recycled honeycombed paper, according to a report by Interior Design in New York.

The Swedish furniture maker’s LACK range, which includes bookcases and tables, is one of a number of lines the company says it has improved to reduce carbon footprints and streamline production.

The LACK range includes an inexpensive side table constructed from a wood-based frame and recycled honeycombed paper. This, IKEA says, makes the product lighter and, by cutting out particleboard, avoids the health risks associated with formaldehyde resins.
