The MRZ knife ring flaker is the first collaborative design project of Dieffenbacher’s Wood Business Unit and the Tübingen design firm defortec. Previously, defortec and Dieffenbacher’s Composites Business Unit successfully collaborated on the design of Fibercon, Fiberforge and Fiberpress products.

Recently, the design of the new knife ring flaker earned recognition from the international jury of the Design Center Baden-Württemberg, receiving its Focus Open Silver Award 2018.

The jury said that the design “graphically visualises the enormous forces at work inside the machine during the flaking process and conveys solidity and reliability. There is an architectonic quality to the pared-down form and structuring of the housing, which looks compact but not overpowering.”

Alexander Hoffmann, managing director of Maier, the specialist for reduction technology in the Dieffenbacher Group, said: “With its iconic design and powerful appearance, in combination with the outstanding performance of our FlowOptimizer technology, the MRZ will set a new benchmark for knife ring flakers.”

Stefan Grobe, managing director of defortec, added: “With a dynamic and clear design approach we have created a distinctive appearance instantly generating enthusiasm for the design and the Dieffenbacher brand.”
