The Canadian Plywood Association and its affiliated CertiWood Technical Centre, which represents and certifies plywood manufacturers primarily in British Columbia, has ceased operations after 64 years.

The not-for-profit trade association gave no reason for the closure, however, the last of its members have in the past 18 months joined the US-based APA Engineered Wood Association, which operates in both countries.

CanPly said Canadian plywood manufacturers remained committed to maintaining quality products and would continue via alternative certification service providers.

The association was founded in 1950 as the Plywood Manufacturers' Association of BC and has long provided third party testing and global certification, product and standards development.

Its testing programmes through the 1960s led to the establishment of plywood as a recognised building material and it developed internationally patented value-added products for flooring and roofing.
