Brazil’s wood product exports increased by 21% in October

In October 2014, exports of all wood products from Brazil increased 21% in value compared to October 2013 that is from US$228.4m to US$276m, reports the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO).

Pine sawn wood exports increased significantly (45%) in value in October 2014 compared to October 2013, from US15.8m to US$22.9m. In terms of volume, pine-sawn wood exports rose 44.5%, from 68,100m3 to 98,400m3 over the same period.

In October tropical sawn wood exports were up 23.4% in volume, from 27,400m3 in October 2013 to 33,800m3 and export values increased 19.0% from US$15.8m to US18.8m.

Pine plywood exports expanded close to 13% in value in October 2014 in comparison with October 2013, from US$37.7m to US$42.5m but export volumes increased by only 3.2%, from 109,100m3 to 112,600m3.

In a similar trend, tropical plywood exports increased 4.5% in volume, from 4,400m3 in October 2013 to 4,600m3 in October 2014 (still low compared to level of exports in the past 10 years). In terms of value, tropical plywood export earnings remained the same at US$2.7m.

Brazil's exports of wooden furniture increased from US$44.3m in October 2013 to US$50.6m this October, a 14.2% rise.
